Day-by-Day Journey
Ndutu forms part of the route for the annual migration of over 2 million wildebeest. Between January and March, the plains come alive with the calving season — one of nature's most extraordinary spectacles — followed by predator action unlike anywhere else on earth.
Day 1 — Arusha to Ndutu
Your safari begins at 8:00 AM with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha. The drive to Ndutu is approximately 6 hours covering 260 km. About 3.5 hours after leaving Arusha you will enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you will notice the landscape transforming from hilly forests to open, green grasslands that gradually fade into the Serengeti. On arrival at Ndutu, you begin a half-day game drive with a stop for your picnic lunch. Sweeping grasslands cover the region, teeming with wildebeest, zebra, and the predators that follow them. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 2 — Ndutu to Ngorongoro / Karatu
Today you have another full opportunity to witness the magnificent wildlife spectacle at Ndutu. An early start at 6:20 AM with a packed lunch gives you maximum time in the field. Game drives continue until approximately 3:00 PM, when you proceed towards your selected accommodation in Ngorongoro or Karatu. Along the way there may be further sightings of the resident and migratory wildlife. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 3 — Ngorongoro Crater (5 Hours) to Arusha
An early start on your final day. After a quick breakfast, you head to the Ngorongoro Crater. The world's largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera measures approximately 260 sq km with a depth of over 600 metres. The 5-hour game drive on the crater floor reveals African elephant, buffalo, Black rhino, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs, and lions in abundance. A picnic lunch at the beautiful Hippo Pool is a highlight in itself. You then begin the steep ascent to the top exit of the crater. The 4-hour drive back to Arusha sees you dropped off at your preferred location by 5:00 PM. With incredible memories and an experience you will carry for a lifetime, this is where you bid farewell to your team.
